    Hunting chamois in Austria

Finally something that is a bit more comparable to New Zealand. A fair bit of theory in this episode, of greatest value is perhaps the recoil impulse when I kill the chamois - notice how it movers. That and the quality of observation is perhaps on e of the bigger advantages of using natural point of aim actively.

Great mountains and scenery Thomas, and lots of good feed for the animals. We all miss at some point! What does the rifle set up weigh all up?

Pretty cool looking mountain areas. Thanks for posting your video. It really does show how difficult it is to film and shoot game.

What would the cost of a chamois hunt be approximately? Maybe worth a go next time i visit familty in the UK
If you can't kill it with bullets, dont f*ck with it.

Thanks. Yeah these mountains are really nice. Well managed animals as well, I could shoot a female up to 3 years old or old nanny past fertile age.

Around €1000 plus travel/lodging. Shoot a trophy animal, add 2000.

Nice to see you did get an animal after the miss.

Once you shoot an animal are you allowed to gut it before carrying it out?

I am required to gut it. It is then carried to the cooler and it is my understanding this animal was processed for sale.
I could shoot a 2 or 3 year old female OR a barren female older than 10. It was quite the process to select and identify THE individual to shoot, but after that it was a rather straightforward process. My companions are quite sure I ended up killing the animal I first shot at, but I can't say that for sure from the photos/films I got.

After the miss we investigated the site (normally done with dogs, the current one is a pup as the previous died unexpectedly), I had no way to export the images on-site and me calling the shot a high miss was not acceptable. I was perfectly fine with that, these guys have high standards and they meet allsorts. After that we followed them further in and I had a really nice stalk sneaking in on the correct animal. There was a huge language barriere for me when I was alone with Hannes, so I ended up placing pebbles in the same formation as the chamois and pointing at them to find the correct animal. Good thing I did, initial lock was on the wrong animal (the one I shot was hidden from view) For next year I will learn some German....

But all in all a very beautiful and interesting experience. Definitively doing more of that. You're lucky to have this on your doorstep!
