Just a little meat hunt that turned into a goat hunt

Was fun though attempting head shots for the first time with my .270. I did notice though how much of a mess it made at close range. Those Hornady 130 grain SST's are just the best ever. They can shoot very accurately through my gun out to 550 metres and yet still make big holes at 50 metres!

Nothing fancy but I thought you might enjoy the clip my son made.

    Good stuff:thumbup:

I find if you cut the throat and do the Arse first you can pull the Arse threw and guts out in one go cut round diaphragm reach forward and grab the wind pipe and pull heart lungs out then cut the last bit of diaphragm and its done.
Personal preference but i find that quick and tidy.
If messy shot and carried whole leave the Arse in, less blood in the undies

I said after, of course it smells like goat what else would it smell like?

What I think he meant was he could still smell the stinking billy that was chasing the white nanny goat I shot first.

They're pretty dumb critters alright I remember the first time I took my pumpy 12g out I caught up to a mob of 6 billys on a bit of a goat track, opened up on them with the 00's and they turned an trotted toward me single file she was all over in a matter of seconds.

Another time I had a large mob in a small clearing across the gully shot a couple and they all took off into the scrub, I took my earmuffs off and could hear them coming around through the scrub only to pop out on the trail right infront of me, emptied the magazine then fucked around trying to reload while the were brushing past my legs!!! could of/should of biffed the gun (mini14), pulled out the bowie and plug them on the way past...blame that one on "billy fever"

Its surprising darwins theory hasn't caught up with that species, ah well I'm not complaining I'm just gutted Rotorua doesnt have any

Yeah, they do provide a bit of entertainment when no deer are around. I just need to find cheaper ammo that is reasonably accurate. Shooting them close is good for the freezer but really I enjoy longer shots for the challenge. At the moment the $3 per round ammo I have is the only stuff I trust.

    Ever think of reloading?

It's a wonder that goats survive anywhere in the wild... Good thing there aren't any coyotoes in NZ or they'd have a real easy go of it!

Thanks mate, son likes making videos more than hunting and I think any excuse to get him away from the computer will do.
