Although not strictly a hunting/fishing trip it was a great wilderness experience. A few photos from the trip.

A fantastic spot well worth visiting. The rockpools hold all sorts of ocean goodies, Some of the biggest Paua I have ever seen found in the pools along the beach.
Just don't go at Easter as the Nelson cavers are all over the area each year
Its a great part of the coastline Shearer, we stayed a bit further north about this time last year and had a great time fishing and exploring the coast, had fantastic Autumn weather as well.
A 4wd trip to the lighthouse is on my bucket list.

I use to do a bit of adventure riding on a DR650 in West Oz, another toy to add to the list. Going to need a bloody big shed when i finally buy a house.

Big river was knee deep when we came back but there are numerous soft spots to negotiate. A fat bike would work fine.
The sand is good to ride on if you get on the beach on the outgoing tide so it is still wet and firm. There are some spots that are softer than a soft thing when the sand is dry.Quote:

other times, the lagoon is the safer shallower option.
Good low tides are essential for safe vehicle crossings, but yes, we have seen Motorbikes, Quads and even a Honda City down there.

We crossed Big River at the mouth on the way in and at the old tractor on the way out. It was much easier at the tractor but there is a very muddy area on the true right getting to it. Would be tricky in a vehicle.
Thanks for the info Rocktoy and Shearer, just watched a few videos of the trip down the beach
I do have a fatbike set up for touring so minds now turning over thinking of a ride down the beach to fish and dive and camp overnight... always an adventure to be had aye.
