    Kaweka jaunt

Have just spent a couple of days with a mate I haven’t hunted with for a few years. It was great to get together again and stroll around.

My mate missed a young stag on the first night, so it was back to camp late after hauling arse across to double check with the dog. And from then on we only saw hinds. So no meat. But a great time.

Random pics that can speak for them selves...

Spot the deer. The one that got shot at...

Dog with my coat slung over her. She was still like this in the morning.

Looking down on Kiwi Mouth Creek and hut.

    Manson country.

    Sundry

    Big country alright.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Looks like you got a bit of hunting in. I was wondering if the weather was going to be OK. Pretty windy on Saturday but Sunday looked good.

Nah. The Manson country is on the western side of the Ngaruroro. We were on the eastern side. Tenting. Pretty much straight opposite the
    Manson bivie.

Cold morning and evening n/w winds. It kept them at home rugged up.
Bush dry and difficult stalking. Great time though.

Just wondering. Meat is meat to me if my freezer is low.
A hind is either pregnant or has a dependant all year round and it is often hard to tell if they have children.
I am not making a judgement. Just wondering if you thought stag meat was better or something.

    That’s fair enough.
Later in March I will shoot the odd hind ‘cos the fawns can get by.
I guess Im a bit lucky too ‘cos I’ve got some good bush fringe country I can usually get a fat deer on.
