    Keeping my eye in

Over the roar period i let a lot of animals go , both hinds and stags as i was looking for a decent stag. Of course i never seen a decent stag so when out today in a local spot in the southern Ruahines it was 'take no prisoners'.
I spooked a couple of deer with no chance of a shot but when i found an open spot on the ridge i was on and seen a hind on a small slip about 130 yards from me i wasted no time in finding a rest for my rifle and dropped her no problem.
I got to the carpark at 8.30 and was back by 3.30 so pretty civilised day hunt and good to keep my eye in.

I have a fly in trip to Otukota hut in the northern ruahines in a couple of weeks. There has been a 1080 drop planned for there early May , i am presuming its been done with the fine weather lately so i am quite interested to see the results of that drop and will post a report in due course!

I was told that the pre feed drop had been done end of April and the actual 1080 drop was scheduled 1st May weather permitting ,but Looking at DOCs pesticide summary it said drop was scheduled 1st June 24. I was keen to have a look round soon after a 1080 drop but if its not happening before our trip at least it will be ok to recover any venison for humane consumption.
