    Last couple of weekends..

Last couple of weekends have been pretty good for me, seen plenty of deer and managed to shoot a couple so that has been good.

First one was a Sika hind way up high on a ridge, glanced over and saw 2 deer about 40m away, one facing towards me and the other facing away. Took a shot and decked the bigger of the two. Was having a bit of a drought so was good to put one on the deck

Got up very early this morning and was at the carpark by 10.30 ;D. Beautiful clear day. Off up the track with the mutt closely following behind. Lots of sign around as im walking in, both pigs and deer so things looked promising. picked a bit of a spur that looked good and we snuck off down there, well I did anyway with the dog being a bit silly. After a few hours dog got really keen and we snuck down the face a bit into a nice sunny patch. Could smell a deer and the dog was inicating hard. Followed where the deer had walked and eventually it eluded us so we snuck back around and the dog got another wind so we went down the face slowly.
A hundred metres later the dog was keen as and we were standing still when a twig snapped to or left. Waiting, waiting and a rustle just ahead.. then a stag materialised out of the scrub just 12m away. Lifted the gun and the stag is standing front on so squeezed off a shot into his chest and he's dead on his feet, ran about 20 metres. Bloody exciting when you shoot them that close in the bush. Had a set of 10 points on his head and although not very big still pleased as it was a good day out. Got to test out the new pack with a load of meat and it went well. Those reds are much bigger than the Sika im used to ;D

awesome mate , yep the reds are a bit of a hefty carry after hunting sika - thats why I find myself hunting sika more than reds a bit these days
