Thread: The latest last night...

Left town at 2pm, home 3am this morning. The usual, usual for me.

Brian and I thought we had it sussed for a deer last night, and we pretty much had. We went straight to a particular gully that I had missed one in last weekend, and staked it out. At 7.30pm I spotted one mooching around in the bush but lost sight of him. Picked him up again 15 mins later but the sun was terrible and we couldn't get a clear view. I mentioned to Brian that he was likely to come out on a little clearing about 100 yards further along the face, so I set up the 6.5 and we waited. It was 304 yards, Then just on dark he stepped out. I was ready, and at the shot he dived into a patch of pungas and disappeared.

When we got close to where he disappeared I let Tilly go and she went straight to where we thought he was, and than dived off to the left for 15 yads and gave a yip. Thats usually a sign that its still on its feet and that she had bumped it, which was the case. I ducked down through the scrub and dispatched it with a neck shot. It was quite funny, 'cos it was laying down and before I finished it Tilly shot down and gave it a bite on the bum, and when it stood up she nearly shit her self and came rushing back to me. My first shot had been a good shoulder shot (140Amax, so not quite sure why it hadn't gone down.

We butchered him and then did the carry out. We had walked 16km for the round trip, so it was great having Brian with me to share the load out.
