A Lazy Raetihi Red
Decided it was time to test the knee and some other old injuries - my Mate from Auckland met me in Cambridge and we took off for three days down Raetihi way to gather some fallow meat for the freezer and to enjoy some time with Fallow and Red Deer
Quad on the trailer for travel through a large station to the prime bush out the back - sited plenty of fallow and a few reds
My Mate shot three fallow - I decided to give the suppressor a miss - and missed one - so maybe it affects the performance - so will have to check it on and off - but the highlight of the trip was spotting a red stag resting in the manuka while we were moving in on some fallow - we watched him for about ten minutes before he spotted us sitting about 80m away - we whistled at him a number of times to catch his attention and watch his reactions
My Mate initially spotted his back legs and ball bag 80m away - I thought he was sprawled out dead but then saw a bit of antler moving so started taking pics and moving slowly so we could see more of him - he saw us on my last move and bolted - 40 snaps later and I had some great memories as he headed off over the ridge
Not roaring - but he had a big yawn while we were annoying him with a few whistles - looked like a practice roar
Lovely animal and great to see him enjoying life - he could be a nice head in a couple of years - a lot of work for him to do in a few weeks’ time and he will need to watch out for the station management team who enjoy the roar
9.30am - just resting

Well done. Going back after him in the roar?

Nice pics :D I have found there is a POI shift with out the suppressor on all of my rifles, an old one being 8 inches high and right without it at 100.

Man he looks fat. He's in tip top condition for the roar.
-
Great series of pictures looks like he has a lot of potential.
