    This little piggy...

Hey team thought id share a bit of yarn for you all

Im not a pig hunter, im barely a deer stalker with the amount I actually get out and do, but I am a self confessed hardcore waterfowler and upland bird hunter
This is also my first time posting in the magazine

So week before last I had picked up my new rifle built by Jeremy @ Rivers to Ranges - Tikka T3X .308

I made arrangements with my best mate / shooting partner to go and mow the lawns at the maimai, have a tidy up and clean up our nearby accommodation on farm etc
I threw the rifle in with me to show off my new toy, maybe set up a target and have a play if time allowed

I arrived to the maimai to be greeted by my mate saying "we've had some visitors" thinking he meant some kind of vandalism or something (we shoot public land) I turned the corner and saw pig rooting everywhere!
Well this will be interesting I thought, so we hatched a plan to wait out the dark in a couple of high advantage points and hopefully introduce ourselves to the maker of said rooting
We also phoned a friend for an extra gun and set of eyes

About an hour before dark we spread across the nearby area to our vantage points, barely 5 minutes had gone by and here they came, a family group of around 5x Pigs fed out where my mate lay in wait... I was on the other side of the valley and oblivious to their presence
BOOM... BOOM... 2x Dead pigs, which also happened to be his first pigs ever, guess he picked the better spot to wait them out!

We gutted the pigs and carried them back to the truck, having a high 5 and reliving how it went down, well as this was happening we glanced back to the area I had returned from and saw another 4x pigs feeding out
We closed the gap down to 120m with the wind into our faces, lined up together and for the first time ever a "shoot on the count of 3" actually worked, another 3x pigs down and a 4th one running, I ran after it and managed to squeeze a well placed shot off at about 260m as he was about to disappear into the scrub

6x Dead pigs, we were wrapped and looking forward to the pork sausages they were destined to become

Now this was great and all but we had been somewhat distracted from the original plan of getting things sorted before opening weekend

So, with that said we returned last week to finish said tidy up, collect the sausages from the butcher and of course wait around at dark again to try our luck

Well.... After sampling the butchers goods, luck showed itself, and we caught another 4x Pigs feed out and close to about 20m away from where I was stationed

Dropped the first one with a shot to the head, which fragmented and hit the next pig, it began rubbing its face on the ground in discomfort while the remaining 2x looked to see what the commotion was
1x More shot to the next ones head, and a running shot through the engine room of the 3rd meant we had 3x more pigs

Guess I better invest in a 5x Shot mag for the Tikka in future

    And bring on opening weekend!

Well that was all action! Good stuff, that'll put a dent in the population for a while.

    Epic.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
