    Long weekend hunt

    Hey all,

My mate Geetz and I went on a mission down south to meet up with my bud Mike in Alexandra. I haven't hunted around the central Otago sort of area much so it was great to get out for a look.

I didn't take many photos as I bought shit batteries and they registered as being flat in the camera as soon as I put em in

We drove to the hut on Friday evening and went for a walk on the Saturday. I spotted a deer feeding about a KM away after walking for about 15 minutes up the creek so we went on a big mission to get up above it.
Mike's dog Molly was winding hard once we had closed the gap which was cool to see, we had to cross a couple of gullies and then I spotted a young stag feeding along a grassy terrace.
Mike saw another deer was with it so Geetz also lined up for a shot. I sent off a round and dropped the stag, 3 other deer bolted and Geetz clean missed one on the run. They slowly made their way over the ridge to the next catchment, they stopped and checked us out for 20 mins or so on the way.

I headed back to the hut while the other boys went up and over to check out the next catchment, they saw 7 or so deer over that way but they were a bit spooked and there aint much cover up on those hills so they didn't get a shot.

Sunday Mike and I split up, I climbed high and spooked two deer high up on a boggy terrace, Mike went back to the catchment and saw more deer but they saw him first - and Geetz stayed in bed

Bloody good weekend overall, I'm stoked to have some ammunition for the BBQ's which will be happening over the next few weeks - a bunch of meat will be off to the Halswell Butchery to become saussies next weekend.
I bought a chest freezer this week too, which seems to have a lot more room left in it I'll try get out for one more hunt before the christmas break

    Cheers!

Nice part of the world down there. Us Kaimai hunters might get a bit of agoraphobia down those ways.
    Well done BTW.
