It's amazing observing a dog do something that's impossible to us. We once took a mate's dog out and whilst we knew exactly where we were, it led us back through the thick scrub exactly along the path we had gone out on earlier.

Was a cool story.

I've started to rely on my dog. He's wicked smart on back tracking. Went the wrong (and much harder) way down to a valley once, when it was home time I told him to go on and he took the correct way back he just ranges ahead 20 odd metres and waits for me, then pushes ahead again. On a particularly long day I think he got too hot and tired and for the last 300m he just disappeared. Found him lying next to the ute waiting for me to get his bowl and water bottle out.
