Well that solves that problem. Thought the whole can’t rase there head was a bit of a stretch. Seen cows do this plenty. Even elephants will rear back on there hind legs to reach up. If an animal is hungry enough it will try its best to get that food. Even walk some way to get there. Just look at migration routes. Maybe that’s what there doing. Moving to better feeding grounds.

Love a good NZ moose thread - no one will believe until someone shoots one and drags it out of there.

I thought the plan was to send Tahr down with his .223 to sort it out, he know how to take photos as proof as well.

I wonder.. Who would, if they saw a moose down there, take the shot? I wouldn't. Among other things I wouldn't wish to be known as thew person who killed the last moose.

You guys give Americans too much credit for wildlife identification. Is there any law there prohibiting someone from shooting a moose if they actually saw one?

Not that i've ever been to Fiordland, but for me there would be an internal struggle if i were looking at one through the scope, not sure i would pull the trigger either.

It would be a dilemma. I hate to say it but I probably would. Or I am afraid I would. But you never know till you come to the moment. But it might depend on where you saw it. There is no point in shooting a moose in the middle of Fiordland because no one would believe a photo, you need to carry it out...

There is no law against it, just the knowledge that you might become known as the man who shot the loch ness monster, or Amelia Earhart.

no I dont believe so this is fun but the chances of taking a shot at a moose in fiordland must be as good as winning lotto

Did you ever hear the story how a certain meat shooter in Te Anau had shot a cow moose but was afraid of the blow back if he spilled his guts?

I personally knew the chap along with his meat shootin mates...there were witnesses.
Te Anau seen many imports arriving,,all sorts after the news was out from one of the two other witnesses.
However.. no one said sweet f all when all the questions started.
Was it all just a load of shit? or just another ..only those that know.. really know.

I think there were a lot shot.

By random chance I was in a house of new acquaintances. The lady said her father had been a keen hunter and showed us his trophy room. There was a small bull moose skull in there. She said it was his Fiordland moose.
He was, it turned out, a well known Wapiti hunter so was in the vicinity a lot. But I can't find any official record of him shooting one.
