Greetings All,
We had some trees felled a few days ago. These were quick growing trees planted for shelter 25 to 30 years ago with the idea of progressively replacing them with slower growing types over time. This never happened and as the trees had escaped my level of competence the experts were called in. All went well and I spotted that there was some heart rot in one of the stumps. The tree was a green wattle that grows well here. After the experts I had departed and I had started converting the logs into bits of wood that will fit in the fireplace I had a better look.
Bloody hell. I had not looked around the other side of the tree or I would have spotted the exposed rotten core. The stump is 1.200 in dia although the trunk is quite buttressed so it could have made quite a mess when it landed. An inspection of all of the trees, some of which are over 30 years old, is now on the urgent job list.
Regards Grandpamac.
