    The new knife

Well it’s not a new knife. It’s just never been hunting before. There’s a few reasons for that. The price I paid for it and the uniqueness of it come into it. Mainly though superstition. I’ve always had a thing that if a new knife doesn’t get blooded on a hunt it’s bad luck and it’s got to go. Being in the middle of moving I couldn’t find old faithful so the pressure was on.
I brought this off Tikka7mm08 quite a few moons ago. It was hand crafted by ex nzfs culler Bill Nikl.

To double the pressure I was under the only way I was going hunting was if mr 6 1/2 tagged along. So with enough gear to sink the queen Mary on my back off we wandered into the bush to check out a clearing on dark. Having a running commentary the whole way is not conducive to easy deer stalking. Any way we made camp had some tea and headed out stalking at 8pm. The first deer we spooked was already running. They don’t like snapping sticks. The second one was not hanging around for “ look dad there is one “. After another wee pep chat we got lucky right on last light. I shot this hind off my knees at 60 yds at 9:50 pm. The excitement levels really ramped up.

Needless to say there wasn’t a lot of sleep had last night between the hound being in the tent and the chit chat.

How many moons we talking? He had a few of those knives, and I’d like one as they’ll never be blooded under his ownership

with the chit chat maybe , but my lad still seems to think he is playing 'the floor is lava' and seemingly stands on every bit of wood he can find rather than nice quiet solid ground....

cool story Nathan and lots more memorable hunts to come with the lad .

One day soon (they grow so fast) he will be able to carry his share of the burden too which will make your time together even more enjoyable!

Yeah unreal. Sharp as. Made quick work of the butchery including skinning and boning. A quick touch with the steel and it was shaving hair off my forearm again.

Good hunt with the young fella, the years will go by quickly so enjoy them while you can. That's a pretty smart looking knife also, I imagine it will stay in your kit now it's been bloodied.

Beautiful knife and some real history there if you have read Philip Holdens books. Great story, good memories, good times!!
