Hi Barry, yep it's a steep ladder up or down off that swing bridge. Nice area in there. Looks like plenty of hunters use it by looking at hut books.

The Bowhunter we meet at Tawa Hut use to work for Forrest Service and DOC as well. Lives in Opotiki now. Wealth of local knowledge.

Tawa hut is looking good, recent new deck and tidy inside.

great to see the area being used - a lot confuse the area with Te Urewera - its not - it is Waioeka Conservation area - the upper head waters must now hold good deer numbers - areas such as the upper Makakoere and upper Kahanui would be great for young fit hunters to travel into - they would get a great roar trip into areas normally not hunted
