Had planned a trip for the long weekend with the father in law down tongariro. Weather was good during the week so we shot in wednesday morning. Had the hut to ourselves and settled in with a couple afternoon stalks to see what sign was near the hut. Nearing sunset i went back to sit watching a clearing I'd bagged my 1st stag on. Heard some thing coming up the track thought it was the father in law coming along. He came along after awhile saying "good sign just there huh??". My thought, "what fucking sign!" Turned out a pig had walked up the track got my wind 10m away done a 180 and trotter off. I heard the porker gunting passed me in the creek between me and the clearing. No eyes on him though.
Second day we done a couple big recon trips up some high points to see where we might have some more luck during the roar. Found a few spots to try.
Friday we spent trying to pick up a meat animal for the bbq. Found a few used game trails, couple day older sign was about as good as it got.
Doc was there Wednesday and have been in the area heavily trapping so i get the feeling its been well disturbed. The bird life surprised me, a lot more activity than what we're used to. Big range of birds and the evening bird song was nice to hear in there.
Couple pictures. The hut and a view on our way out.
