    Ol’ Man And A Boy.

After having a few problems with the body breaking down on me, I thought I had it sorted. Back pain gone (to a manageable level), shoulder on the mend, and hip rehabbed. Been on a bike for 6 months getting some sort of fitness back. I reckon I’m the fittest I’ve been for 20yrs. The lad has been out with mates conquering mountains around the area, and having some success filling the freezer. Was honored to be invited on abit of a wander( although the main reason was to drive him).
Arrived at the spot 0430 and set off following markers, had a river crossing 400m in (deep enough to freeze the jewels) and carried on upstream. Spotted a white fallow buck and some spikers, but were on the wrong side of water, and not target species. Saw some promise 1 1/2 hrs in.

5-6 tahr had crossed over not long before us, stones and sand still wet. Feeling lucky we cracked on aiming for a likely looking area. Another couple of nut dunks had us roughly there.

Started climbing, body holding out, keeping up with the young buck........

Until knees started to give out. He carried on up and I started glassing while giving the knees a rest.
Anyway, long story short, nothing in our basin, fallow and reds on other side, but out of reach for today. He skirted along the tops, while the ol’ boy sidled, knees getting worse. I made the call to abandon and started dropping, while he checked out the next gut.
Was a battle for me to get back, considered ditching gear, but managed to get back with a couple off sticks helping.
He never saw anything and caught up just before the ute.
I think I’ve blown the next invite chasing tahr for a while.

Who else has knee troubles, and what’s your secret to keep them going. Nurofen and Voltarin kept them under control the following days, but would prefer not to use them. The legs and stamina were fine until they let go.

Might have to just pack a fishing rod as well for the next time, and hope a silly one wanders past on the easy stuff to keep some sort of credibility

I take Brufen SR before I go, while I'm there and when I get back. Plenty of it. Gets me through with some pain but tolerable. Im not scared of taking it. When Im done Im done. Far better than not hunting.

Get a pair of trekking poles. They take a huge load off the knees.

Voltaren is diclofenac? It's accumulative so you basically need to be on a course of it - start taking a few days before you're going out. But keep in mind pain is your body's way of telling you to back off.

Brufen stuffs with your muscles lactic acid production, I wouldn't recommend for frame-pain.

    Eat well. Try dropping gluten.

Yoga or Tai Chi are good for a multitude of reasons.
Yeah, I used to get a lot of cramp when on Brufen. I now take zinc too which seems to contra it. Also diabetic so eat minimal carbs and sugar. Get by ok though.

I’ve got some, but in the rush to track down “my” gear which had been ‘borrowed ‘ the previous couple of months, I clean forgot them. I was hoping that the work I’d done fitness wise, it wouldn’t have been to much of a drama. To many years jumping off roofs, haystacks, truck decks and cabs is starting to catch up.
Wish I’d taken more notice of the ol’ timers who told me off for doing so.

Notice to all you young spikers out there..... listen to the ol’ boys. They know what they’re on about

    Oraki...
What you need is a shot of synvisc in the knee, certainly worked for me sir....

Cheap at $900 for an injection from sportsmed. Easily affordable for an over paid wealthy tanker driver such as yourself.......

Turmeric works really well for joints. You can buy it in pill form (not the best) or add the real deal to your food (heaps more effective). There is something in the cooking process that activates the turmeric to make it more effective.

Get some of this and have one every night with tea.
I tried joint pills, turmeric, magnesium, fish oil, glucosamine and was taking enough diclofinac to give me stomach problems.
None of it did piss all other than the diclofinac.
Then I found this and I dont bother with any of that other shit now.
3-4 days and you will feel the difference.

Brufen sr works better than nurofen or Voltaren prescription only though. Won't fix arthritis or joint decay but stops it swelling up and keeps the pain at tolerable levels.
