    One Bullet Wander

Headed into town with my hunting gear and a ferret tail that needed to be dropped into H&F for the http://www.huntingandfishing.co.nz/swamp-comp as PT wasn't here to enter the tail. I entered it for him because I'm a good bugger.

The weather was a typical Southern Hawkes Bay day with howling westerlies and intermittent showers blowing over the Southern Ruahines. I thought no one will be in the Ranges in this weather and on arrival at the road end my thoughts were confirmed. I was the only one there.

Was a bit worried about the safety of my vehicle as there was window glass at the parking area.

Got my rifle out insert bolt (that I have never forgotten) Then get my box of ammo out and it was all brass except one live round. Thought to myself 'shall I go back to town?'

But didn't,I was going to have a look in an area I haven't been to for some time.So with one bullet in the magazine I headed up a knarly ridge draped in vines. Not much visibility. Advantages being for me being smaller than the average bloke I weaseled my way through the vines at a slow pace but was confident of my silent hobbit pace.

Thinking to myself as you do 'Tuff going when am I going to get out of this jungle'.

Further up the ridge the bush started to open up a bit.I could here the native pigeons, fantails and the howl of the wind was muffled by the ridges. The wind was in my face.

Yes!! Even a 'Smurf' can get through that.

I had got out of the jungle of vines and found better deer habitats but was still in ninga mode with my one bullet.

That was the first clearing that I came across. More ridges but the terrain was starting to open up on my decent.

Wandered a totally different way back and come across some steep terrain the hobbit was going down hill fast search of the quarry that will be in shelter somewhere.

So the single live round just went walkies with me and rifle and we met the creek bed on the decent.
