    Patience

For a while now my son has his heart set on getting him a Black fallow for a skin. A hunt on a mates farm that holds few fallow planned start of this year was put on hold due to me having a accident.
Any way out the back of the farm i work on yesterday looking for red red yearling or two i spotted a black fallow spiker sitting under a Manuka tree about 250m away. I see the odd fallow but mainly reds.
No way of closing gap and a bit of wind we moved along the ridge to open up the angle a bit. Got the boy all set up and waited after five minutes and it stood up and walk straight behind a patch of bush, Another 5 minutes and me saying we will see it come out. Another to bucks walked out from behind the patch of bush with the black one in toe. The game plan was change, one i thought one was a pretty good buck. They were on the move feeding in and out of clearings going in behind broken bush last seen going in to a gut
We were able to drop down the face 50m on to a little flat and waited and waited. About half a hour had past and i was starting to give up hope when down in the creek a red stag walked up a game trail out on to the grass and while watching this just below it i seen a fallow coming out off the onga onga below him, getting the boy all set up again it was the medium size buck fallowed by the bigger buck. You ready "yep yep" the bigger buck gave his mate a gentle bit off encouragement with his antler and stopped in his tracks presenting a shot. It look to be a good hit with the buck crashing down into the bush.
A few high fives and chat about what just happen and a very happy boy.
Made our way to the gully head and down the broken face using stock and game trails getting closer the dog started showing a lot of interest of all the fresh sign. A easy find down the bank for the dog and boy. A very happy boy with his first real Buck
