Pre roar scouting and my first bowed stag

Been a bit quiet on the hunting front since the birth of our first baby in September, although I've been getting out for a few evening and morning hunts, and doing a bit of diving and fishing in between. Now that Lachie is 5 months old and in a bit of a routine, I thought it a good chance to get away for a couple of days before the roar comes. A lack of hunting hasn't bothered me at all as I am loving fatherhood -it really is best feeling coming home to the wee bugger every day!

With great anticipation, we headed to a spot we visited last year, where we saw a couple of young stags with good potential.

Covered plenty of kms, in winds that were a nightmare. Glassing was a challenge in the open, so we had to hide behind anything that gave a little bit of shelter. Most animals were well down in the valleys out of the wind, but most stayed in the open all day - a sure sign they're not getting hounded. It was great to see animals out in the open stuff.

Saw a few animals about, mostly young stags and hinds with fawns at foot. A couple of chamois were seen also, one a pretty good one, which was pretty awesome to see.

On the first evening we stalked a couple of young stags and I managed to close the gap to 35m and drop one with my bow. He is my first stag and fourth deer with my bow, something I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of.

Anyway here's a few photos and a short video of the trip

I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
