Do not despair! There are some of us who still encourage and endorse the safe use of firearms with our primary school students. Here's a few images of my Y7 - 8 students on camp on my whanau farm (2007).











The time honoured tradition of putting food on the table is still alive and well in our semi-rural community!

PS. A Y8 student shot 9 consecutive clays this year - the best I've seen so far.

I challenge everyone on here to take at least one unrelated young person hunting and/or shooting at least once per year. There are a hell of a lot of folk on here who whinge and moan about "the youth of today" but I wonder how many are actually doing something about it.

Fantastic! Echoes of my youth came back to me when looking at those photos.

Just waiting for my great nephew to be old enough to come south and stay each holidays, his mum says when he is 7 in 18 months time. Not likely to have grand kids as step son doesn't want children, too afraid he will be like his real father.

Make sure you hold true to that ethos and resist the pressure from the snowflakes who want the kids protected in bubble-wrap. I lament the very recent demise of our local school camp which used to include shooting as an activity... the kids all loved it and it was a highlight they all remembered for years.

I think that is a wonderful effort and I am surprised that any school still has those real adventure camps anymore.
I wonder too, perhaps if it was done in conjunction with a school vege garden, the anti gunners would have difficulty arguing against self sufficient food skills being taught

It’s called real life experience, something we have lost touch with these days.

I am a High school teacher and pistol shooting coach. All 250 of our year 9 students are going to do a 2 hour target air pistol shoot over the next few days. We have done this for the last 8 years and the students really love it. They have to shoot and pop a balloon before they are allowed to shoot at the paper target. Some are a little apprehensive at the start but once they see the balloon pop there is no stopping them. Over the 2 hours they fire about 50 shots each. Some then go on and join our squad which has come 2nd in the NZ champs for the last two years.
