After some planning it was time for a tahr trip on Saturday, with the weather being what it was We were off to a false start and Sunday was the day. This gave us one less day and as it was only a short trip anyway meant we had to get cracking. After arriving at our destination we got camp sorted and headed off in separate directions, I took a friend with me that had never seen a tahr before. I glassed likely spots as we walked with no animals seen after a couple of km I sorted some rocks to sit on in the fresh snow And sat down to let the Binos do the walking. After about 10 minutes I spotted I young animal on the other side of the valley then another another animal next to it then a third a nanny, I said to my mate the must be a bull up there somewhere I kept glassing and in the shadows below them I made out the bull. A decision was made to climb a gut away from them and get to the ridge above them, this is where the long slog through the snow began after an hour of climbing through the snow we got to the top. We snuck up to the ridge and I peered over much to my surprise they were a lot closer than I had thought at about 50m, I told my mate that they should run to the top ridge after my shot so get ready. I put a round in the chamber put the crosshairs on his shoulder and pulled the trigger, legs in the air he rolled about 200m downhill in the snow. The rest of the group had turned and ran towards us so my mate after a couple of shots secured his first ever tahr and he was wrapped. It was a great trip with good mates what hunting is all about.
