The Red Ghost
The other day I was cruising to my normal fishing spot on the Manawatu River when a deer ran through the barley crop from the right side of the track.Attachment 32043:wtfsmilie:
Deer have been seen and shot on other streams leading out of the Ruahine catchment but the Manawatu river where I fish is a long river before it even winds it way too this location.
A 12 point stag was shot 6 months ago as the Oruakiritaki flows into the Manawatu River.
Tonight I headed out without my fishing rod in search of the red ghost and this is where it jumped the fence and disappeared. Steep as hell. Hope it landed on its feet.:o

I did some stupid monkey swinging to get down into the area but never saw the red ghost.;)

After a few hours searching for the red ghost and armed with my 7mm08 and no rod for a change I spotted a critter.:D
Checked the firing zone before squeezing off the big pill and the quarry layed lifeless after the shot. The recoil lost my target looking through the scope after the deafening echo roared down the Manawatu River.
Confident of the shot I had just taken but still carried my rifle to the kill zone in case the red ghost was deaf and was muffled from the shot from the steep bank.:)
Wow that was a nice hunt tonight with the red ghost eluded me once more. Probably long gone after that noise shattered the district:D
And the result was beautiful:D

No meat damaged but the red ghost lives for another day.:)

Did you try the gutting method that I showed Toby ? No knife required

-
Na she was a milky doe so required a sharp knife to cut the milk glandes off the belly.

Choice one Dundee, nice pics. It amazes me where the odd deer turns up at times.

I was fishing below where the deer jumped the cliff tonight and at 2010hrs I talked too my dog in a normal tone which is loud.
I always talk to my dogs if I'm on my own (mad ) he listens and doesn't complain.:)
When I opened my mouth I could here the bushes and branches being moved,so the bugger is still there.:)
