We wandered in off the south coast on Friday and made our way up the stream and then up onto the main range arriving just after dark. It was a struggle to find somewhere big enough and flat enough to set up the bivvy so we settled on a spot that didn't give us the best night sleep, but it had to do! The next morning was fine but there was a strong northerly typical of the area.
We glassed a few of the usual places mostly on the wellington side to no avail, so the call was made to head back to camp for a late breakfast and pack up and move on. We headed off for new ground and a new camp. We didn't get too far and decided to have another quick glass around as the wind had died slightly. Straight away a deer was spotted. It was a hind but it would be Shaynes second deer so we decided to take her.
He was a happy man now! We carried on up with the intention of doing another night, but at the top decided to head back down to the coast as the water supply was getting short.
We made it down to the beach just on dark and made our way to the stream thirsty and tired!
