Went down to visit one of the kids south of Balclutha during the week.So all is good, but I'm not getting up at quarter to four.
The boy came in at nine for breakfast then was off to get the penicillians in.I said see you at Christmas and hit the road(I'm over cows)
I decided to try and take tracks as far north as I could,so up the Clutha to Millers flat then up dry weather road to Lake Onslow,Canadas, lots of Canadas
33km and a locked gate, closed road 1st June till 30 sept by order ODCfcukoff big chain and padlock buuut both gudeons facing up
Onward,to the top of the range
Then oops a vehical,4x with a quad on trailer, dogs with tracking collars and the owner in a blaze camo top, after a bit of a yarn I said "spose there's a locked gate down that way" "yeah you'll need a key to get through" "how far down?" "couple or three ks" "cheers mate,I'll go down for a look" "when you get to the yards drop over the side and have a look at the old stone hut"
The gate at the yards wasn't locked,I thought I'll go and check the locked one and have a look at the hut on the way back.
The track got wider, fences on both sides, sheep, stock and two gates chained together with same chain and lock, buuut, yeap outer here down past the homestead and onto the road,a cloud of dust to Patearoa then stopped at Ranfurly for fuel and coffee.
Off to Naseby and Danseys Pass, halfway up I stopped to take a photoand this was at the front of the truck
On and up over the top
I pulled up at a little creek and made a brew, all peace and quiet in the sunshine.
Back on the seal again from Duntroon to Kurow then into the Hakataramea, arrived at the saddle gate right on six oclock
Stayed at Fairly for the night.
Next morning was a long haul on the seal and I got thinking, the Rainbow road would get me home,I hauled into Hanmer Springs, people everywhere, half of Cristchurch and other Forieners must have been there.Anyway I was informed that oh,no that road is only open a few times a year, now I know that road has real locked gates so headed for the Lewis, had a brew in the riverbed below Maruia springs
Remembered there's one more track Maruia saddle through to the Matakitaki river then to Murchison
First rain in four days now on the home strait. She been a pretty big job,1929 km
