    Ruahine Mid Weeker

We’d planned to disappear into the Ruahines earlier this week before Christmas and as the week approached I hoped the weather would hold out. We’d had some very hot days and despite some drizzle and some low clag the three days we spent ‘up a creek’ were great. We saw 11 deer and shot a couple.
On the second day the two boys went out glassing by themselves and contacted us after spotting five deer, suggesting we bring over a couple of rifles ASAP as a stag was sleeping 370 yards from them. Once they had shot that another fed out and @popshot and I double teamed that.
A great trip, with a great bunch of lads.

I love the Ruahine Ranges, it’s my spiritual home, my ash’s are going to be scattered there.

I unashamedly burgled a stash somewhere around where you camped there The lid had been left off the bucket and it was full of water, so I "recycled" a couple of gas canisters that were going rusty.
Hope it wasn't yours ..... cheers though

The blue drum? Not ours. I’m never impressed with stashes of shit in the bush, most of them are left unused like that one. We just carry in and out what we need. :-)

looks like a great place...so very different from what I normally hunt down here...I too have a special bit of hillside lined up for my ashes to scatter over...worked it out years ago, sort of my way of going back into the land.will post photo of it next time Im up there.
