    Ruahine walkabout

Had a leave pass and weather was good in Ruahines last weekend so did a circuit I've been eyeing up for a while

Went in through Kelly knight and to the tops, first night camped on Maungamahue trig, next day walked around Te Hekenga and Saw tooth and camped on Ohuinga. Then a short day over to Iron peg and then out the next day with a side trip to Mangaweka trig and then back out to road

Saw about 30 deer for trip, with 20 of those being on day 2, shot 2 on last morning(didn't want to carry any before that), was only after 1 but thought I missed so shot another from the group. So a heavy pack on last day

Was a great trip and weather was perfect aside from so clag now and then. Will pics say the rest

What's with the cut timber in the second to last pic?
    Awfully long carry for someone

It was the remains of the Mangaweka trig, on the highest point in the Ruahines

That was part of the idea, a bit of venison and a lot of fitness hopefully, if I can keep it up over the next few weeks

She carries her food, my old dog used to take a bit of my stuff (and sometimes venison) but he was twice the size, and I don't want to stress her joints overly and she doesn't slow down with it on at all
