iv been champing at the bit to get out hunting again now the weather is starting to improve, with a good long range forecast i planned a 3 day trip to a good looking area to see if i could track down and shoot my first chamois.
after a gut busting 6 hour walk i finally broke out onto the tops and with not a cloud in sight i was excited to get into some glassing. i mooched my way along the top ridge stopping every now and then hoping to spot some chamois.
after a bit more walking it was getting to late afternoon and i was getting a bit knackered so i made camp, that way i could sit in my tent and glass over the area i was heading into the next morning.
i had a good night sleep only waking up when my alarm went off at 5 am, i opened my tent and to my surprise there was snow and thick cloud as far as i could see, which wasn't far at all less then 100m.
i cooked some breakfast waiting and hoping the cloud would disappear when the sun come up so i could head off and start hunting, a few hours went past and it only got worse i had icicles on my moestach. i went for a walk hoping to get a break but after a couple more hours i decided to call it quits as i was soaking wet and the wind had come up from the south.
after my walk back to the truck the sun had come out and i was once again warm, i looked around and noticed that i was on the only hill in the south island that had any cloud on it, and on the drive home there was nothing but sunshine as far as the eye could see. i did enjoy my walk and am even keener to get back up to chamois country.
