Just going of what he reckoned-chest shot fail-side on Ok.

Nice video Gimp, it looked like a windy trip; nice wee hut too.

They sure are hard to kill. They’re obviously hardy animals as well, well adapted to living in the wild.

Tough to kill is right, the ram took a 147gr in the brisket at all of 20m range and ran ~20m before keeling over. The hut is nice, great porch. Smoky as hell though, don't light the fire.

I don't know the history of the herd, or my sheep breeds!!

Apparently the one my mate got was descendants from an old farm-merinos. Not sure of area just BOP so that's a fair area

The flock of sheep in the area that Gimp went hunting are decedent's of early merinos.

@berg243 I had a "pet" hokonui ram that I caught as a lamb in the bush about 20 years ago. Mothered it onto one of my fathers Romney ewes (once we had dipped in some super nasty chemical to rid of all the wildlife!). It was never big in the body but grew quite a nice set of horns. Its issue, as you say, was that you couldn't really contain it. The old man gave it to someone who had a small flock of hokonuis on her lifestyle block.

haven't had anything to do with him for years so cant really find out specifics

Thanks Gimp for that,brought back many fond memories,, took those same steps on many a trip after sheep.
I would have thought that hut would be long gone,have the name on back of slides somewhere,,smokey bastard.

Thought of you while I was there. Hut still smokes...

Went in along the main ridge to the hut, track’s pretty overgrown in spots.

I have heard of wild sheep not too far from Hamilton. I might have to go have a look. Been a few years though so might have been shot out.
