What was the exit wound like? Diameter, bleed, etc? Get a picture?

Interested to know what the terminal velocity was at 810yd.

@Flyblown this is the only half decent photo I took of the wound. I was pretty satisfied with the terminal performance considering it didn’t connect in the best of places and didn’t hit bone etc. I didn’t see any blood when tracking but to be fair I was focussed on controlling and following Sako. Lots of blood where he bled out and died though.

@Flyblown, I once read that 1200ft/lb of energy will be enough to drop a red hind as long as shot placement is OK. Does this sound right to you? or any anyone heard something similar?

Mate,if shot placement is right you dont need ANY ftlbs of energy.... but the 1000ftlbs figure has been bandied about for many years as ethicle limit......makes .222 and the likes only ethical killers out to not much past 50 yards depending on projectile weight and start speed..... drop on spot is either nervous system direct hit,or you have taken out both front wheels.... first doesnt need much energy,just penertration...the 2nd needs both. but you use the mighty .270 so dont have to worry


having said that,on paper the tsx load and hornady HP loads have same energy......sure as shite ARENT the same terminally.

Yeah nah who knows? Energy is one of those variables that we can go round in circles about eh.

I'm just curious to see how the bullet performs at various speeds, and the kind of holes and bleeds they create. I've not used the 7mm version of ELD-X before.

I've had great performance from ELD-X mostly in 6.5mm (143gr), and also .308 Win (178gr). Only one notable fail, which was a shot placement fault with the 6.5mm (just above the lungs, just below the spine). Other than that, a shed load of deer (fallow and reds) and hundreds of goats at ranges out to 700ish, mostly >350-400m. There's a few of the guys on here that's been on the hill with me shooting ELD-X and ELD-M at these ranges, they're bloody good bullets.

Something I've been talking about with mates on here is dropping the number of rifles and just having one hill rifle. Hence the interest in the 7mm Rem Mag ballistics. This is a good advert.

I reckon the Hornady pills do what they say on the packet, and this vid from @stagstalker proves the BC in hunting terms: drop & windage & clean kill. Great shot mate.

I'm a North Islander funny enough and ended up down here at a very young age and have been back several times..like I have had the chance but nah and now I must admit ..I should've eh,dumb arse.
