    Smash and Grab

Went down to Tongariro National Park for a quick overnighter with the boy. Was hoping for a stag but didn't see any. Saw 5 Deer last night all Hinds, Yearlings and Fawns.
Got up early this morning and had a wander over to a new spot. Stopping and glassing.
Just got up ready to carry on and there was a hind 70 yards away. No need for binos. ha ha.
It was Oliver's turn for the shot and he did well. She dropped on the spot. 70 yards off hand. Not bad shooting for a 12 year old. I missed the fawn a couple of times before I managed to drop that too. Smaller target though aye.
Got them broken down and then back to camp and then on to the truck.

Does the hind hang around if you shoot the fawn first or does it only work the other way?
    Well done @Chur Bay.

@Allizdog generally if you shoot the lead animal, usually an older hind, first the other animals mill around for awhile because they are waiting for the lead animal to take them away. Works best if you can drop the animal on the spot. An animal bolting after the shot will spook the other animals.

Yeah . He carried his share
He's taller than me now 175 cm.
He will be a big unit in a few years.
He's only going to get Fitter and stronger.
    I'm older and slower.

please just make sure he doesnt bugger himself up now while still growing out...what I would give to know what I do now about how to lift etc when still had a young body.... simple things like either bone out animal or carry it slung low across back using belt method VS bust arse carry it out whole as a backpack.

I don't smash him. I have to hold him back.
I carried the meat back to camp he carried f
    rifle and gear.
Back to the truck he probably carried 20 kg all up.
I've been lifting weights for many years so he knows how to lift correctly.
