Thread: Some wallabies just don't learn.

Went for a wee wander last night, armed only with the camera as the block is still closed up to hunting for another few weeks. Came across this curious roo about 5 minutes from the truck.

Just shows what 3 months without hunting pressure can do to their behaviour.

That was cool,that deer didn't hang around.

I think you were the game and he was playing you, another few hundered meters up the path there were a few hundred of them waiting to pounce on you...

They are an awesome creature too watch and hunt.

The deer is a bit wiser than that Roo!

I did laugh at that red hind bolting.. it's a deer farm and she's a definitely a farmed one, so nothing to fear from me! I guess by nature deer are just a little more cautious and flighty than wallabies..

Closed over fawning as it's just not worth the risk of chasing hinds off the fawns. The deer are vital to the farm, hunting year-round is not.

farmed deer have a 20 percent mortality rate, so its wise to keep them at arms length in fawning time.

Wow that's a bloody high mortality rate for fawns.

Losing 20% of your production would be unsustainable in my world of manufacturing.

Any idea what the wild fawn mortality rate would be?

Supposedly our wild population left un checked can double every 3 years.

Just to clarify 2-5% for adults and 19-20% for fawns according to my mate who us a farm manager.
