    success at last

Well finally manages to shoot a deer over the dog.

She looks quite happy with herself when in fact she did f all to help. Wind not right for her to indicate, however big points for not breaking at the shot, i did not expect her too, actually she is very steady to the shot. Although I knew where the deer was she did a good job of tracking to it.

Spotted deer in a scrubby bit of clearing, head down feeding. No shot as she was hidden by scrub so walked up..bloody wind was up my arse so was expecting her to bolt which she did at about 35 meters. impressed with Barnes 130s, shot a little high and shot the spine, blew the deer off its feet on the spot.

With the drought broken we wondered off to find my mate a deer, which we duly did, nice shot on a knobby at about 150. Dog managed to steal an eye fillet before we noticed…bit of a dirty look for that one, lucky I had a deer on the ground to replace it.

This morning we left early, had a look on a clearing that we have both hunted and as we were leaving said we had never seen a deer on it. Wondered about 10 meters away, turned round for a last look and 2 deer.

At 200 odd I gave up the shot to my mate with the 270, he flattened a yearling.

The other deer did not run off, actually wondered closer to us, sat down and lined her up at 150, buggar me 2 deer each and a arse breaking walk out. Managed to tie up the dog to stop any more free lunches!

Good to stock up the fridge for the BBQ season, so all good.

    Merry Xmas boys and Girls

    Cheers

Good question Tahr. If the bloody thing keeps stealing good eye filet it should be sent back.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

    Tahr

    I got Max from Stug.

Got her at 18 months old. Was a good deal for me as I did not feel I have the time to put into a pup. Next time round I will get a pup and train from the get go.

If you would like I can dig out the papers and check the breeder, I think she is from South/mid canterbury, Stug may chime in if he sees this.

Anyway she has a way to go to be as good as Tilly, but she is getting there!

    Cheers

Nice write up and fantastic result.

Steer the dog towards the guts, every dog i have seen next to afresh kill likes the fatty membrane over the intestines.

Or you could cut out the tounge and distract her with that.
