A "successful" goat hunt
A nice sunny afternoon on the outskirts of Dunedin.
Goat hunting to cull the goats that are mixing in with a sheep herd.
I'm lying down next to some baleage, with a decent white nanny lined up. Only 30m or so away.
Exhale, hold, squeeze.
..The goat didn't drop, and the mob it is in bolts.
The rest of the hunting party chases after the goats, bagging two before they stream into the bush.
My hunting mate goes to look for the goat I had lined up.
Nothing to be found, until he come back to me and looks down...

The 7mm08 bullet hit the number 8 fencing wire, with the heat of the impact coiling the wire up a bit.
The fence was about 2m away from the barrel, but I was given the clear to shoot by another guy in the party.
My "mate" tells me I need to have a photo with my kill.
Thanks...
I'm sure that I will find it funnier one day. Until then, the lesson has been learnt.
I need to give the farmer some beer I think...
Cheers,
Scott.

Years ago I took a shot at a fallow doe that was on the side of a hill just a metre the other side of my back boundary fence line and had a similar thing happen. The projectile split one of the wires on the deer fence. Fortunately the fragments hit the doe and messed up her rib cage and lungs enough for her to die quickly.

I was shooting hares with the most exceptional 223 ever, the Maximus, and just after I fired at one, heard a wire ping on the fence. The 53gr V-Max need continue toward the hare, but hit the ground ground about 4m short.

I've heard of someone putting a bullet through the bonnet of their truck and out through the headlight... They could see the deer in the scope as it's above the line of the barrel and didn't think to check that the barrel had cleared the edge of the truck haha think they would have only made that mistake once

As long as you can smile then all is good. If your mates are good buggers then they will never let you forget that one
