    Wink Summer venison

Just havnt got out much and with a couple of small injuries havnt travelled too far.
Done a few local hunts, seen a few deer but havnt pulled the trigger on any.
During the week i got a PM from a forum member from the other side wondering why i havnt posted anything lately and wanted me to take him for a bushstalk in the coming weeks which i said i would.
So with that in mind, and time i actually bloodied the new look 308 with the new Vx3i i decided i better go for a hunt today and see whats about
Decided to stay local again, and headed to a spot i know theres a couple of deer but instead of hunting the side where the deer are i decided i hunt the other side of the valley and see if anythings in there.

Thought it be a good place for a pig, on the cool side of the hill and a few creeks around so the plan was hatched.

Arrived to a surprisingly cold morning at 600am. Already checked out the DOC map and knew where i head and of i went to a still morning with abit of a chill in the air.

Soon found the game trail heading up the ridge i wanted to hunt and soon saw a few marks that looked ok.
Birds were everywhere, good to see but one stage there they were making such a racket i felt like calling in the choppers to drop some 1080 as i could hardly hear myself think ( just kidding lol)

After about a hour spooked a hind with its fawn and decided i wouldnt shoot either of them and got the camera out instead and manged to get a couple of shots of the fawn but the light was bad and a crap camera it took average shots

Deers standing just left of the two trees in the middle if you half blind like me .They buggered off and decided to head higher up in nice bushstalking native to pick up some more sign.
Sure enough a little while longer came to a big face of native where i saw a couple of fresh marks.
Suddenly, right down the far end of the face i spot a movement.
Sure enough out walks a young deer chewing on a broadleaf.
Looks like prime venison so i get the 308 primed with a 165sst ready to go and look at the options.
Was abit too far for a free standing shot and as i didnt want to move too much i just sat on the nearest log for a better rest and lined the deer up.

Unforturely it wasnt playing ball and didnt present itself for a clean shot so i waited.
The deer looked like it was maybe the currents years but it was twice the size of the fawn i saw earlier and wondered if it was a very early fawn as it was plenty big enough to fend for itself.
Luck didnt come my way though as no clean shot was on offer while he walked off into the tight stuff Huh.

Lucky for me a deer was with it and suddenly made a apperance and it looked in prime nick.

Maybe its mother but the other was old enough to look after itself and as it had disappered the decision was to take this one.

Lined up the front shoulder, prob about 70-80m away and BOOM and a 165sst on its away.
Perfect hit, top of the leg around the heart region and after a short 20m dash it was down for the count. Plenty of blood when i got there and the sst certainly done its job.
First kill with the new set up!
I was wrapped. the deer was in prime nick, good layer of fat around it ( no milk being produced so no staving fawns) couldnt ask for anything better on such a nice day.

After a quick butchering job, trying to beat the wasps i made my way back to the car.
Arrived back by 1040am and on the road home

Pluss one there they are nasty bastards I shot a couple of chammy once in a creek bed so I gutted them & placed them under an overhanging rock & carried on hunting around 5 hrs latter I returned to find they had basically turned both carcass into a hive they had even eaten the eye balls out couldn't believe it in the end I got a few meters of twine threw it over the biggest cham horns & ran as fast as I could which wasn't that fast as I had a set of hind quarters over me bastards stung me in the side of me neck got 1 of the cham though left the other for the wasps another time dogs had a pig down in a gully I got there & sigg,ed the pups onto it next minute I felt a burning sensation on my four head gave it a rub with my sleeve yep about waps jabbing my head then a swarm turned up I stuck the pig & ran fuckers came after me ,poor dogs got a bit of a hiding as they wouldn't get off the pig lol im glad we don't really get them down here!

Nice way to ease back into a bit of hunting, good result with a load of venison at the end of it. No stopping the 308 now it's tasted blood.

    Good stuff.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
