    A swedish hunting journal

    Hi there,

Some of you might have read the two stories I’ve written on here about when I was in New Zeeland last year and got the opportunity to go hunting with a couple of guys from this forum. If you haven’t you’re more than welcome to have a look at them here:

    http://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.n...y-swede-12434/
    http://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.n...hunting-17139/

I had an amazing time and the most interesting thing about hunting in another country is all the differences there are when it comes to the methods and gear used as well as the general hunting culture which in most cases was far from what I was used to back home. This got me thinking that It would be a great opportunity for me to share with you how it’s done where I come from and to start that of I would like to present myself so you get an idea who the bloke behind the keyboard is.

My name is Martin and back home for me is a small town called Linköping in the south part of Sweden. I am 21 years old and I am currently studying to hopefully in about 6 years become what we call a huntingmaster. Despite the name, it’s not about hunting at all, but more about forest management and sustainable forestry which I find really interesting. A big part of that interest comes from my father who has been working in that field his whole life and it’s also by him that I got introduced to hunting in the first place. Along with my grandfather and a couple more oldfolks we used to go out every Christmas and try to shoot the Christmas-hare. We also participated in the yearly moose hunt when people from all the farms in the area got together and tried to shoot the amount of moose given to us in the quota.

As the years passed by my interest for hunting was still there and at the age of 15 I got my hunting licence (I’ll explain more about that later) which allowed me to go hunting with a gun as long as I had an adult standing right behind supervising me. This was my first step to become a hunter and I think it was about a year later that I shoot my first animal, it was a small pig and as my father and grandfather congratulated me I couldn’t have been more happy. Two years later I was old enough to get my own rifle licence and driver’s license and that opened up a whole new world.

Since that moment my interest for hunting has grown stronger for every day and for the moment we are in the middle of the season so there is not a lot of thoughts which aren’t about hunting.

That’s a bit of information about me and although I realize that I tend to write a lot of not so interesting stuff I promise it’s going to be better. Since this is a way for me to practise to writing skills you’ll just have to endure a little bit more text.

In the next few days a would like to write a little bit about my hunting situation as it right now covering my dog, hunting area and maybe something about the guns I use so keep your eyes open

    Cheers,
    Martin

Ps, if there is a better part of the forum for threads like this an admin should move it there.

Awesome Martin. My best mate is living in Sweden and called me last night on his way to work. Was quite funny because he asked how the hunting was going then three deer ran infront of his car and he had to swerve to miss them
I plan to visit him one day so may look at catching up with you too.

Woke up to this today, first snow of the year!
Hopefully it will stick around until the weekend so we can take advantage of it during the hunt

Roe bucks are back in season May 1st, I'm a few hours north of Wallin, but fingers crossed we'll both have some luck.... I'll post results on my thread, The North. Got 3500 hectares to cover....
