    Tahr trip 2014

    Hey Guys,
10 days ago I went on my first Tahr hunt. I'd been wanting to hunt Tahr and Chamios for years. Being a North Islander with young kids who works too much this has proved difficult to do.

My Dad had some time off coming up and although he more of a game bird hunter than a deer stalker he suggested we organise a trip together along with his mate who does a bit of guiding.

We had an awesome trip in an amazing place. I shot a mature 12" bull tahr (7-8 years) and a younger 10.5" bull tahr (3-4years). It was supposed to have be a good place for Chamois but we never saw any.

On the day we were due to fly out the weather turned to crap and we ended up spending another 2 nights waiting for the chopper.

I'll definitely be doing this again. Although I will need a better sleeping bag for next time

I made a but of a slide show of the trip. Enjoy...

    Hey Stug,
forgot to mention. The edge performed really well. Thanks once again to KG for building it for me.

The 12"Bull was 334yards away and quartering away from me. He ran about 10m. I found the 300g smk just under the skin on the other side.

The young bull was walking slowly along the ridge line 366yards away. I hit him about 4" further back than I had wanted to, I suspect because he was moving. He went about 50m - which added about half an hour to the recovery.

The Leica HD B's were awesome! I can now see why you guys rave about the difference between high end and average glass. The ballistic program was really helpful. Adjusting for the angle and air pressure straight away was really handy (not that any of my shots were overly long). At home the air pressure is usually 29-30, where as it was 24-25 on the trip.

Cool place, great report. We stayed down by the creek, the lower camp. Absolutely awesome place.

Thanks for sharing; I loved the music.
