Recently bought a One Planet Nitrous -3 sleeping bag to use over the summer months, in its stuff sac with my silk liner it weighs 650 grams, it packs down really small and is a significant weight and space saving over my domex mountaineer which i will still use for the colder months.
To give it a good test the weekend gone in a roundabout way i climbed up onto the Ruahine tops above the Pourangaki river /Maungamahue . The weather was a bit a average on the saturday but with a southerly change sat afternoon it cleared up nicely and sunday was mint day after a cool start.
This area doesn't get much hunting pressure i suspect because of access issues into the Kelly Night hut areas so there were a few deer out and about, not mobs of deer but one there a couple over there, most were a fair distance 5 or 600 odd yds but i did see a couple of handy ones that i should have shot even just taking the back steaks only which i think is ok in these times of plenty, but with a long walk out around Maungamahue and down the Mania track i wasn't to worried . One young stag in particular was very lucky indeed as i had my rifle set up but fluffed around getting a photo and the stag walked over the ridge out of sight .
I was very pleased with my One Planet sleeping bag it was cool enough first thing sunday morning to need gloves and a warm coat but i was warm as toast in my new bag.
Young stag in that last photo was about 10 am and quite happy snozzing out in the sun .
