Dropped my gear off at the hut.
Instructions from Stagslayer 12 were to crank the fire up as I would arrive first. So I did.
I drank a few cold ones while I waited and when I heard Stagslayer 12 ute turn up I went out to help bring his gear into the hut. Grabbed his gun case and geeze it was weighty.
We drunk more piss and had a feed when we thought we better call it a night as it was after midnight.
0530 Reveille followed by a feed of porridge and a hot cuppa.Up the Ruahine Ranges with headlamps on to get to chosen location before sunrise. What a mission! Sweat soaked clothes once on top.
Nothing was seen from here as the sun rose.
Stagslayer 12 went down the ridge to the centre clearing when he spotted this
Two shots rang out at 0905,the beast went down then got back up and disappeared over the ridge.A frantic search went on for 3hrs when blood trail was lost.
Here comes the deafeated Stagslayer over the clearing in the centre of picture.
Now the mission was to get back to the truck, another slog but no more deer to be seen.Packs were not as heavy as we had hoped thou.

Back at the ute having tired weory bodies we drove back to camp for a cook up hoping not to meet any loggers on the way.
Quick look just before nightfall at another area revealed one deer heading over the tops,on the skyline to the left.
Too dark we headed back for a feed...this wasn't my plate surprise
More beersies and a few more yarns and it was after midnight again.
Oopps we slept in so headed here for the sunrise, while Stagslayer 12 went up the top I glassed the clearings.
Nothing was seen and it started to get wet so we headed back out of there.
That was my two days annual leave, it was hard work but unfortunately no meat came home. Thanks @stagslayer 12 good times on the Ruahine Ranges. Beats sitting on the sofa aye
