@GWH When we lived in Arnhem Land even in the most remote spots you would see F##kn Feral cats & we would actually help out on the local Aboriginal Ranger programs with trapping & shooting .In Oz they have a panther scare every other week because the majority of them spend their time on a couch in Slumburbia & have no idea what the outback actually looks like or know Feral cats grow so big or that Foxes get mange & look different without their furry coats .

Back in 04 we did a Motorcycle ride across the Simpson Desert ,by sheer good luck the months before they had ,had one of the best rain events in Central Australia in living memory (they are having another one right now). As we got into the center of the remote Simpson Desert we witnessed the rare sight of the reason the Simpson Desert has the world's longest parallel sand dunes ,the north-south oriented dunes form & remain that way growing to around 100ft, because when they get big rain it pools at the base of the dunes in miles long narrow pools & it remains for weeks meaning the dunes are then held in position by vegetation ,(mainly seed grasses & spinifex), that grows with the help of the pooled water. What that meant was we would come over the top of these big dunes at full throttle & be greeted by huge flocks of Budgerigars , Cockatiel's & other seed eating birds as well as Black duck & Teal. These flocks would black out the sky & at dusk when they came in to roost they would make their own wind . This also meant the Sand Dunes were compacted & the motor killing fine dust was not as much as a problem so we made good time.
The down side was it also meant there was was 100's of Feral cats & Foxes we sighted in what would normally be a desolate desert ,the amount of wild life they must kill every day is staggering ,these pools of water were lined with half eaten bird carcasses .The Aboriginal's living in the Central Australian deserts call the feral cats Tree Chickens & eat them as the are eating all the best bush tucker.
