Excellent tally guys. Well done.
Excellent tally guys. Well done.
Looks like a great trip. Pretty cool country. Thanks for the photos.
Ive got a hand held thermal spotter that I use and it's quite good if the weather is a bit cooler. I think it gives me an advantage but my mates still get as many or more than me without one. I probably get more out of a smaller area than them, and to get theirs they probably have to cover a bigger area.
On the right day I would spot about 75% through the spotter and the rest through binos.

I found mine a very valuable tool when I was last down there and on my last goat/pig hunt. Often it was find them with the thermal and then try and find them with the binos. I am not sure of the percentages but there were a fair few animals I spotted with the thermal that I wouldn't have seen without it.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
Young fellas with passion! well done in those conditions boys the Hunter Hills will love you for it
That trip had it all, and breakfasts to fuel it as well. Thanks for the story and the pics. Good to see the wallaby population being kept under control as well.
If you have a garden and a library, you have all you need. Oh, and a dog, and a rifle
Awesome trip. Great work fellas. Saved the ratepayers a few mil in pest control at the same time 😂
Well done Tahr and team, that’s good numbers
Shut up, get out & start pushing!
An inspiration to the rest of us well done
Happy Jack.
Can I come next time, or at least borrow your cook🙂
The last photo / caption made me laugh
Well done men. Looks like a bloody great trip, topped off by spilling a bit of blood along the way.
South Canterbury has a lot to offer, with a few surprises if you climb high enough
So @Tahr, how do the wallabies react to a suppressed shot?
Do their mates scatter or hang about?
Use enough gun
wow, thats a lot of shooting and dead wallabys
They are quite unpredictable and its hard to predict what they will do. Mainly if they do bugger off it's just a case of waiting and they re-appeaer. Sometimes at the shot others will pop up - curious I guess.
I shot one on this clearing (pic), and 15 minutes later another came out and I shot that, then half an hour later another one. So there were 3 within a few yards. They will come up and sniff the dead ones. There were 2 dead on the clearing when I took the pic.
