Wallaby & stuff

3 of us have just spent 5 days chasing wallaby in the Mackenzie Basin area. The weather was blue bird everyday except for one that was a bit overcast.
Our hunting was during the afternoons and evenings but unless you spooked them or walked them up the wallaby didn't start appearing 'till after 2.30-3.00 pm. Dark at 6pm so quite a small hunting window.

We shot 156 wallaby and a couple of Fallow. Over the last few years we have culled probably over 2000 wallaby. Its great fun and excellent for getting your eye in. I shot them out to 375 yards this trip with the average range for me about 180 yards.

I've always liked the wallaby shooting thing.

About 40 yrs ago in Twizel there use to be a good wine club.They made very good variations of Rose Hib wine.Cost a few sickies back them.:thumbsup:

@stug I fired 76 shots for 63 wallaby and 3 rabbits (10 misses). Not so good on the running shots. Didn't miss a sitting one. I take 40 rounds per evening.

Yes. I used 80 grain Targex. The other 2 used 55 grn Hornady. All hand loads.

Great trip plenty of hoppers to keep your eye in, certainly is a beautiful place to be. Your shooing is pretty (darn ) good considering your hit to miss ratio.

I carry 750 mils of electrolyte mix for each hunt.

Those are some great pics, were they taken with ya cell phone ? looks like pretty good quality for a phone camera if they were.

All with iPhone except live deer pics taken with my pocket cannon camera.

Awsome looking country, Wallibies are on my to hunt list since moving down south,

the venison is well taken care of and very much appreciated THANKYOU....
will drop it off to Irish work mate with a young family this coming week.....

My pleasure and pleased its being put to good use. I had forgotten about shooting the deer when I tallied my shots, so that's
9 misses for the trip, not 10 :)

We will be back for another go soon because we couldn't get a crossing for the truck home so left it in ChCh and flew. Ferry vehicle crossings become available after about the 20th May. Its an ill wind that brings no good.

I don't know if it would of helped in your situation, but you can leave your vehicle in Picton and Bluebridge will load the vehicle onto the next available ferry for you. I did this once when my ferry was canceled.

This was a good sized one.
