With my last trip really wetting my appetite for chasing the tahr pretty hard again and also getting over missing out on another ballot... I headed out to one of the local spots I hadn't visted for a year or more for a wee look about.
Was shaping up for another cracker day
After the usual climb I headed to where I'd previously seen the odd and I imphasize odd tahr on previous trips. It gets regular vistors due to the easy access, but you don't know if you don't go and have a look...
Pertty much straight away I spotted my intended target
I had a wee goal this year of getting a decent winter bull tahr skin and this boy fitted the bill so carfully closing the gap I found a good soild rest 320m away got settled in behind the carbonlite dialed my elevation and waited for him to precent a shot. I didn't have to wait long and as soon as he moved into a good position I squeezed off only to miss... wtf? I had been hitting claybirds no worries the week before out to 365m no worries. A quick reload and follow him 20 odd meters down hill where he stops no mistake with this shot as the 95gr targex found its mark! sending him arse over tit 50 or so meters down hill without another twitch of life. Thats more like it I mumbled to myself.
I waited a couple of minutes marked the spot and headed over.
The bulls country
And there he was
And not too bad a head either although I have a bigger one on the wall I was well pleased with the 12 5/8 lenght especially from this spot
Pretty chuffed
Now the work begain...after a feed that was. 40 odd minutes later I had the whole skin and head off and trying to figure out how I was going to fit everything in the huntaway? But i managed, just...
A rather full pack!
Lets just say the next hour or so of sideling and climbing was a workout I hadn't had with that kind of weight on my back for some time but I have to say my fitness really shone which I've been working hard on over the past year or two and am loving it!
Even though I felt 3/4 broken on the way up
And I also remembered to give the walking stick a break
Was a fantastic day on the hill and I'll be doing it again next week as i still have 5 weeks of hoiladays left
