I organised a hunt for our local branch of NZDA at the meeting there was a fair bit of interest. Thursday night rolls around and the numbers are dropping like flies. Anyway three of us head in with nice clear skies, about midnight that changed and rain set in drumming on the fly for the rest of the night. Saturday morning and it’s still drizzling and windy so we mucked around camp. The afternoon cleared with the sun making an appearance, plan hatched to go and have a look further down the valley. Cruising around a corner we could smell a goat or two, rounding the next corner here’s a smelly billy on the track, he lived because of fog on scope lenses. Onto some grassy flats and these two weren’t so lucky.
We stayed and glassed nice clearings until dark but only more goats seen. Sunday morning and we woke up to a frost, I got up and went for a walk to find fresh prints on the frosty ground but nothing seen. I text Andy Animal and we called around to his digs for coffee and scones on the way home. Here’s a couple of pics from the weekend.
