Back in the Ruahine Ranges today to climb this slip I saw a deer on a few weeks back.
Ranged a deer at 369 yard a few weeks ago but had to get off the Ranges and back to work,so I left it.
Up for work at 0350hrs, back home for a feed after morning milking and in the Ruahines by 1000hrs.
Made my way up the steep gully to the slip.
Long way back down to the creek bed when I got closer tto the slip.
Coming across a few pockets of snow on my approach.
Finally made it to the slip at 1200hrs. Time for a breather and take in the surrounding scenery.
Started heading back up thru the bush after nothing seen on the slip.
Plenty of sign but it was time to get off the ridge and head back down.
Sidling the ridge with the creek bed far below I kept stalking thru the bush slowly heading lower towards the creek and carpark.
Spotted a spiker at 10 metres away, standing shot with the 7mm08 straight between the eyes!
I butchered the meat and saddled my pack...f**k in heavy when I only way 58kg.
The route I made back down to the creek bed was almost vertical.
It was ass sliding material and monkey swing with one hand to slow the decent from the ridge.
Finally off the ridge and back on the creek bed that I hiked earlier in the morning. What a welcome sight and relief to get off the ridge.
Time was ticking but hadn't looked at that and no signal in the bush to let the boss know I'll be late for arvo milking.
Back at the ute and unload my pack, what a friggen relief off my shoulders!
Time check 1430hrs...15 minute drive back to work Job Done!!!
