    Xmas venny

Quick trip to kaimanawas this weekend. Spotted a gap in the roster and was ahead on home jobs so all good.
Left Orkland at 2am and collected a speeding ticket on my way down. Had a couple of detours as highway 1 was closed south of Tokoroa and Taupo had some triathlon event.
After some trickery I was on the trail at 7 and duly spooked a couple on the ridge. Haven't been in kaimanawas for a while and was reminded how the whistling and barking of sika can make you feel like your still in the game..haha.
Bush was good underfoot and plenty of sign. Emptied my pump bottle and filled it up with natures best from the stream. Kia Ora.
Up the next ridge I got done by another deer. Gotta concentrate aye.
Had a nice rest in the sun and headed down a nice looking slope. Fresh sign and all good. The slope levelled to a terrace with a gut and terrace on the other side. While appraising this scene a hind came trotting along the opposite terrace. I was a bit higher and she didn't see me do i shot her at 70m. She hobbled off looking a bit sick. There was a good blood trail and I ought to have waited for her to bleed out. I didn't and followed up. 20m away she jumped up and I sit her in the head.
Bit of a balls up but all is well that ends well.
Good to be day hunting in the kaimanawas again. I was out and cracking a steiny at lunchtime.
Fine at camp here but ill go home tomorrow a d miss the forecast rain.
Kia Ora tatou. Have a great Xmas and holidays everyone.Name: P_20191207_102941_BF.jpg

Thanks, it's a m77 Ruger in 260 in a long action. Carries and shoots nice. Bought it from fish city in Hamilton for cheapish. Lilja barrel. Could shoot ragged hole groups when I had the big scope on it.

Ha, I must have been zoning out and had to haul up pretty quick with all the cones in front of me.
