120 series prado rusty sunroof - lesson learned.

I've had nearly three years of running an 06 Prado 120 series 4L V6 1GR-FE, apart from wear and tear issues, its been reasonably trouble free until now.

Opened the sunroof in the warm weather, spotted some rust. Got home and thought a wee drop of rust converter would do the trick. Not a chance.
The glass is bonded to the seal and fixed into a steel carrier, which runs on alloy rails. It seems that the design is susceptible to rust. A look on Pradopoint.com has found its common.
In my case the steel carrier is coming apart like weetbix.

So now I'm looking at getting a replacement sunroof with carrier. As its common, there are unlikely to be any scrappies with one that is untouched.

So if you're in the market for a 120 series - buy one without a sunroof. This option is more common now.
