They have come a long way from the trolling motor days.

Lithium batteries are the way to go obviously... the main point of difference I have read are ...... motor submersed vs motor out of water, and battery location, fixed on motor/ removable from motor/ separate from motor.

There is plenty on you tube on the subject, I had been following an English cruising couple with their electric OB experience.

Higher speed/ planning... not sure it is yet a financially viable option.
