    2.8 hilux injector pump fitted to 1kzte

    Iv got a 1kz that had the dreaded electric computer powered injector pump
    It's ran with a chuf and occasional shake at idle and generally ran not the best
    Iv just fitted with the help of a mate a 2.8 hilux manual pump to get over this issue, with the new pump on it runs better but I can see the issue is still there, anyway it's mid project and I'm really curious to know what the plug on top of the 2.8 injector pump is with the two blue wires?
    It's obviously not critical as I'm able to drive the truck but it's doing a couple of funny things that I'm thinking I might be able to remedy if I know what it is,

    Some of the odd things
    Runs for 3-4 seconds after turning off the key then shuts down
    Bit hard to start like there is air getting in the feul line somewhere(did this with the old injector pump too) Will chase this down with clear tubing

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Sounds like the fuel shut solenoid is sticking for the running on problem.
    Check the fuel primer on the filter, if you prime it up firm and it starts first pop you may have a leaking diaphragm letting fuel bleed back from filter when stopped.

    It fires up first pop with a good hand prime to firm, takes quite a few pumps to get it firm too so I think you are spot on
    I also pumped till it pressurised up and left it and in like 20 seconds or less it's soft again with the engine off

    if it runs with those wires unplugged they might be for a rpm gauge

    If its anything like my mechanicaly injected Nissan Patrol and mechanically injected Chevy 6.5 diesel powered Landy, those 2 wires operate the cold start advance. Lowers the IP housing pressure so advances by a couple of degrees the injection timing? Makes the engine sound clattery till its warm.

    OH, are there any 1KZTE experts here? I have one and am interested in making some extra power.

    The motor will be getting a full strip and decked head, probably a new pump and turbo, injectors etc total birthday etc too. So any suggestions appreciated.

    Its got a map sensor but I'm pretty sure I have made it obsolete with the manual pump, I'm pretty sure the ecu just does the glow plug timing now

    This guy and kaiapoi repowers will be the trick, one of their race pump hybrids and the turbo to match that they sell intercooler & 3inch exhaust & dump pipe (that's like 6k so far in bits and what I'd like to do but I'm gunna be happy if mine just runs well)

    I'm going the cheep route (boost tee and manual injector pump) just to get its power restored to where it should be or a bit above but in a safe way.

    Two wires are rev counter, first problem, have you overhauled the injectors and checked valve clearances?
    Can you put up a picture on intake manifold so I can id the motor,
    Also please don’t go to repowers unless you have 4 spare engines lying around
