I have been offered a 2006 X trail with 217000 on the clock for around 4 grand. It's tidy with a new wof. Appreciate any comments good or bad regarding them.

Drive it till it drops.
Rust is a thing with them, also what engine? Certain models suffered from electrical gremlins too. Otherwise they weren't too bad for a softroader - the later version is not recommended though, hideous fuel economy for one and not really any good offroad.
Not certain, 2.5 petrol l think, thanks for the feedback, does the price sound right. I was thinking maybe 3800 but it might be a bit cheeky. He started at 5500. It is definitely a petrol and pre CVT.
2006 will either be manual or proper auto. not a jatronic cvt. (evil things)
also they come with (from memory) a 205/65 tyre.
changing it to 205/70 makes a huge difference in economy and the speedo will be close to accurate
Ahh yep, thats the better combo. The diesel was ok-ish if looked after (I say that as all diesels of this era and later suffer from computers). As gonetropo says, early Nissan cvt's are a bit of a lottery. Most just do it, some just explode and are a bit of a bad surprise.
Had a 2006 bought it new, 2.5L 5 speed manual never had an issue up to 100,000k,s sold it to a mate, never had an issue to 180,000k,s sold it on still going strong I believe. Always serviced on time etc.
I'm trying to get to heaven before they shut the door.
Thanks all, done deal 4200. Fingers crossed it's not another cluster fcuk. At least this time it wasn't an impulse buy.
Just to end the saga of thee Nissan, l dropped out of that purchase and got a better one for half the price off Turners auctions.
About what they are worth. Check the strut tops and driveshaft UJs. The UJs are staked, meaning a new shaft unless you fancy a wee battle. (complete new shafts are avail relatively cheap though, incl hanger bearing). Also have a nosey in the cooling system for leak stop if it has a new radiator. The diesel ones drive well, I dunno why they didn't sell more of them
Identify your target beyond all doubt
Those diesels came at a fairly pretty premium, and really it wasn't the market they were aimed at I suspect. Most seemed to be urban mummy taxi's - not many ended up out of town (I live semi-rural and the only time I saw them out here was visitors from the smoke).
Re the staked driveshaft UJ's, only a battle if you turn up with the wrong weapon haha. Not user serviceable is a pain in the arse though, more and more are going that way.
